Internship summer 2026

Call for Internships

About Bridges-Strong

Bridges-Strong is a dynamic nonprofit organization committed to bridging the gap between access to education and innovation, as outlined on our website bridges-strong.org. We deliver specialized engineering-focused educational programs tailored for skilled adults in underserved communities, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to become innovative entrepreneurs and catalysts for technological advancement. Founded in late 2024, we are in the exciting phase of developing pilot programs that will define our long-term impact. Our mission emphasizes hands-on, practical learning in STEM fields, fostering self-reliance and economic growth in regions where educational opportunities are limited. By focusing on real-world applications like water purification and filtration engineering, we empower individuals to solve community challenges, create sustainable solutions, and drive progress. Join us in transforming lives and communities through accessible, high-quality engineering education!

Reflections on Our Inaugural Internship Cohort: Winter 2025

The Winter 2025 cohort marked the groundbreaking first internship program at Bridges-Strong, setting a strong foundation for our educational initiatives. Over five months, a dedicated team of interns collaborated to research, gather data, and produce initial videos for our flagship "Water Purification" program. Leveraging AI tools for efficient searching, organizing, and drafting content, the interns honed their technical skills while unleashing creativity in video production. This hands-on experience not only advanced our program but also demonstrated the profound impact interns can have: by the cohort's end, they will have designed and completed 4-5 educational videos in both English and Spanish. These resources are already poised to educate hundreds of adults in underserved areas, helping them understand critical water safety concepts and inspiring entrepreneurial ventures in environmental engineering. The interns' contributions have accelerated our pilot program's rollout, directly supporting communities facing water access issues and showcasing how collaboration at all levels can amplify educational opportunities in technology and tech-driven efforts

Exciting Internship Opportunity: Summer 2026 Cohort

Building on the success of our Winter cohort, the Summer 2026 internship invites five passionate interns to propel our mission forward. As detailed on bridges-strong.org, you'll continue pioneering research and development for the next wave of educational programs, potentially exploring vital topics such as:

  • Water sources and common contaminants

  • Health impacts of poor water quality

  • Basic water quality metrics

  • Engineering basics around water filtration

  • Advanced engineering concepts in filter design

In addition, the cohort will contribute with innovate strategies to engage participants effectively, simplifying complex engineering ideas into accessible, relatable content for adults from underserved communities with limited prior education. This internship is ideal for high school seniors or college students enthusiastic about STEM—particularly engineering—who thrive in collaborative environments.

Interns will operate as a cohesive team using agile methodologies, promoting flexibility, rapid iteration, and continuous feedback to elevate programs quality. To foster inclusivity and work-life balance, the program is fully remote, with daily virtual meetings (or as needed) to collaborate with the program coordinator, volunteer engineers, and educators. This structure not only enhances teamwork but also mirrors real-world professional dynamics in tech and education.

The impact of your work will be tangible and far-reaching: by the internship's conclusion, the team will have created comprehensive materials and videos—in English and Spanish—for at least two new modules. These outputs will directly empower underserved adults to gain engineering skills, launch community-based innovations (like affordable water filtration systems), and contribute to broader societal advancements in health, sustainability, and economic development. Previous interns have voiced strong enthusiasm for working on these programs, inspired by real-life examples demonstrating how this educational approach can meaningfully benefit communities. Their deliverables have laid the groundwork for modules with the potential to reach thousands, helping reduce educational barriers and spark entrepreneurial ecosystems in marginalized areas.
